IHG Merlin is a restricted work-access environment for eligible hotel colleagues, corporate employees, contractors, vendors, and other approved users. This is an independent guide and is not affiliated with IHG Hotels & Resorts.

Start from IHG’s own Merlin sign-on page. The current screen includes options to log in, recover a forgotten password or username, request a network account, and finish self-registration after receiving an invite code.

What Does IHG Merlin Mean?

IHG Merlin is associated with IHG’s internal network identity and workplace applications. It is not the public account that hotel guests use to manage reservations or collect IHG One Rewards points.

That difference sounds simple, yet it causes many failed sign-in attempts.

The public IHG One Rewards account is designed for bookings, member benefits, points, and reward activity. Merlin access is issued through an employment, property, contractor, vendor, or other approved organizational relationship.

A Rewards email address may resemble a workplace username, but that does not make the accounts interchangeable. Resetting the Rewards password will not necessarily change the Merlin network password.

Which IHG Login Page Should You Use?

Use the Merlin sign-on page when the task involves an IHG workplace account.

The official screen currently presents four useful routes:

  • Forgot password or username?
  • A link to begin requesting a network account
  • A link to complete self-registration

Those routes are displayed by IHG on the Merlin sign-on page.

Search results create a different problem. Many pages that rank for “IHG Merlin login” belong to unrelated home-design, architecture, finance, or general marketing sites. Some describe unsupported fields, claim a specific browser is required, or present account creation as open to anyone.

Do not use those pages as the source of account instructions.

One third-party article, for example, describes a conventional username-and-password form and says Chrome works best. Another says an employee may need a region-specific link and domain chosen by a manager. Neither detail appears on the current public Merlin sign-on page in that form.

Verify the domain first. Skip copied login forms.

Can a New Employee Create a Merlin Account?

Not without the account process being initiated.

IHG’s registration instructions state that a person who receives an invite code can use the invitation link or the self-registration option on the IHG login page. The code is sent to the email address provided during the account-request process.

The setup route depends on the user category.

For corporate employees and colleagues employed at IHG-managed hotels in the United States and United Kingdom, IHG says the Network ID and temporary password are sent before the start date. Corporate contractors and vendors are instructed to contact their IHG corporate representative, who must arrange Network ID creation through MyID.

Franchise workers may follow a property-managed process. Exact onboarding procedures can vary by employer and region.

A practical registration path is:

  1. Confirm that the manager, hotel administrator, HR contact, or corporate sponsor has initiated access.
  2. Locate the issued Network ID notice or invitation.
  3. Open the Merlin sign-on page.
  4. Choose the self-registration route if an invite code has been supplied.
  5. Follow the prompts displayed for that account.
  6. Return to the main sign-on page after registration.

No invitation may mean no account yet. Password recovery cannot fix that.

How the IHG Merlin Login Process Works

The initial Merlin screen asks for the assigned workplace identity. IHG’s network-support instructions refer to this as a Merlin ID and direct the user to enter it before selecting Next.

The next stages depend on the account configuration. IHG’s support documentation describes entering the current password and then completing a second authentication factor before reaching account-management options.

This staged design explains why a person may not see a password field immediately. It also explains why entering an IHG One Rewards email on the first screen may lead nowhere.

Use the exact workplace identifier supplied during provisioning. Do not improvise with a hotel number, loyalty membership number, personal email, or employee nickname unless the official screen or employer instructions specifically call for it.

Resetting a Forgotten Merlin Password

IHG publishes more than one password-support path, likely reflecting different account setups.

The current network-account support page instructs a user to enter the Merlin ID, select Next, and use the Password locked or forgotten option when access has been lost. The recovery flow then requires second-factor authentication before a new password can be saved.

A separate IHG reset guide sends corporate, managed-hotel, and franchise-hotel colleagues to Password Central. That guide tells the user to select the relevant domain, enter the User ID, and choose Forgot Password.

Follow the path shown for your account. Mixing instructions from different reset tools can produce confusion because screen names and authentication steps may differ.

One operational detail is easy to miss: IHG says a newly reset password may require up to one hour to synchronize across devices and platforms.

That delay matters. A user may successfully change the password, test an email client or another hotel application immediately, see a rejection, and conclude that the reset failed.

Reset once. Wait before repeating it.

Changing a Password You Still Know

A password change is different from forgotten-password recovery.

IHG’s network-account support page provides a documented change-password route for someone who still knows the current password. The user enters the Merlin ID, current password, and second factor, then opens Authenticators. The page instructs the user to open the menu on the Password row, choose Change Password, and save the replacement.

Use that route only when the current password remains usable.

An IHG-hosted PDF for remote corporate-password recovery adds a specific warning for company laptop users: selecting the ordinary Windows Change a password option while away from an IHG office network may leave the laptop password and IHG network password out of sync. The document instead directs remote users to a dedicated password-reset tool through Windows sign-in options.

That is a genuine hands-on distinction. A password can be valid in one context and stale in another when local device credentials have not synchronized with the network identity.

What If You Forgot the Merlin Username?

Begin with the Forgot password or username? link on the main sign-on screen.

Recovery options are not identical for every worker group. IHG’s franchise-hotel password instructions explicitly say that a colleague who has forgotten the username cannot use that particular reset tool and must obtain assistance from the IHG Service Desk.

Check the original onboarding material before escalating. The Network ID may appear in the temporary-password notice, invite message, or another authorized communication issued by the employer.

For a recently hired colleague, ask the responsible manager or administrator whether the identity was created. A missing username sometimes reflects incomplete account provisioning rather than forgotten information.

Do not create a second registration request unless the workplace contact confirms that the first one failed.

Why the Merlin Account May Be Locked

Repeated authentication failures can trigger a lock.

IHG’s network-support material documents a locked-account scenario involving five failed Entrust Grid Card authentication attempts.

Stop entering guesses after a lock message appears. Continuing to retry cannot confirm whether the underlying issue is a wrong password, wrong Merlin ID, failed second factor, or expired account.

Use the official recovery option instead.

This is also where generic browser advice becomes a distraction. Clearing cache files will not repair a locked network identity. Reinstalling a browser will not create missing access permissions.

Identify the account state first, then address the device only when the page itself fails to load.

When Merlin Loads but an Application Does Not

A successful login does not guarantee access to every internal tool.

Authentication confirms who the user is. Authorization controls which applications, hotel records, functions, or resources that person can open.

Those permissions may depend on job role, property assignment, management company, employment status, or local administrator approval. Public IHG documentation does not provide one universal list of applications available to every Merlin user.

Check whether the missing item is:

  • A Merlin login problem
  • A separate application login
  • A missing role assignment
  • An uncompleted onboarding requirement
  • A temporarily unavailable service

IHG also maintains a dedicated maintenance page that can be used during an outage to report maintenance and provide alternative access to selected applications.

If the main authentication succeeds but one tool is absent, skip another password reset. Ask the authorized property or corporate administrator to check the assigned permissions.

Common IHG Merlin Mistakes

Using the Rewards password

IHG One Rewards has its own sign-in and password-recovery process for guest and loyalty accounts. Its customer FAQ directs members to reset their password through the Rewards sign-in page using the email associated with that account.

That process is separate from Merlin network recovery.

Following an unofficial tutorial

Third-party articles sometimes claim that users register with any valid email address, receive a temporary password automatically, or access a universal collection of benefits after login. Those descriptions may be outdated or unsupported by current IHG material.

Use IHG documentation for account actions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is IHG Merlin for guests?

No. Guests use IHG One Rewards.

Do I need an invite code?

A self-registering user needs an invitation issued through the account-request process. Other eligible employees may receive a Network ID and temporary password through their onboarding route instead.

Can contractors get Merlin access?

Corporate contractors and vendors are directed to contact their IHG corporate representative, who can request creation of a Network ID through MyID.

Why does my old password work on my laptop but not online?

The local device credential and network password may be out of sync, particularly after a remote password change. IHG’s remote reset document warns corporate laptop users against using the ordinary off-network Windows password-change option for this reason.

How long should I wait after resetting the password?

IHG says synchronization may take up to one hour.

Should I reset the password when one application is missing?

Not first. A missing application may be an authorization issue rather than an authentication failure. Confirm the assigned workplace permissions with the responsible administrator.

Can the password tool recover my username?

Not in every account configuration. IHG’s franchise instructions state that forgotten usernames cannot be recovered with that specific tool and require Service Desk assistance.

Use the Merlin sign-on page for identity recovery, allow the stated synchronization period after a password change, and send provisioning or permission problems through the authorized workplace channel.
