IHG Merlin is a workplace gateway for authorized IHG hotel colleagues, corporate employees, contractors, vendors, and sponsored users. The current sign-on page separates normal login from account recovery, Network Account requests, and registration for people who already hold an invitation code.
This independent guide is not affiliated with IHG Hotels & Resorts. Account creation, recovery, and permission changes should be completed through IHG systems or the manager, administrator, or corporate sponsor responsible for the user’s workplace access.
What IHG Merlin is
Merlin connects eligible colleagues with internal tools used for hotel operations, employment administration, learning, recruitment, email, reporting, and related business functions.
IHG’s maintenance page identifies separate resources such as MyHR, MyID, MyLearning, MyRecruit, Outlook Webmail, PeopleSoft, Performance Tracker for Hotels, Reporting, and SmartPay. This shows that Merlin acts as a gateway to multiple systems rather than one application containing every workplace task.
Access differs by account.
A franchise-hotel colleague may not receive the same tools as a corporate employee. Contractors can be limited to applications approved by their sponsor, while property, region, department, and job role can affect the resources displayed after login.
A working Merlin sign-in proves that the central identity was accepted. It does not confirm access to every linked application.
Pick the right IHG account
IHG One Rewards and IHG Merlin serve different purposes.
| Account | Primary purpose |
|---|---|
| IHG Merlin | Workplace applications and internal hotel resources |
| IHG One Rewards | Guest reservations, stays, points, and member benefits |
| MyID | Network identity and account administration |
| Individual Merlin app | A specific HR, learning, reporting, or hotel task |
The One Rewards login is intended for members managing bookings and loyalty activity. Merlin access depends on an authorized workplace or sponsored relationship.
Check the task first.
Use One Rewards for a reservation or points issue. Use Merlin for MyHR, PeopleSoft, MyLearning, SmartPay, reporting, or another internal service.
A shared email address does not make the accounts interchangeable. Resetting a guest-account password will not necessarily change the workplace credential used by Merlin.
Choose the correct Merlin entry path
The current Merlin page presents different routes for different account states:
- Normal login for an existing account
- Forgot password or username? for account recovery
- A Network Account request route
- A registration route for users who already received an invite code
Use the route that matches the real situation. A colleague whose account already exists should use login or recovery. Someone without a Network ID may require the account-request process. An invited user should complete the registration tied to that invitation.
Do not open another registration request to fix a forgotten password. Do not start password recovery when the workplace invitation was never completed.
Old bookmarks cause another type of failure. A link saved after several authentication redirects may rely on a session that has expired, so return through the current Merlin sign-on path before treating the account as broken.
Start clean. Skip the old link.
How new users receive an account
Merlin is not open public registration. The identity must be associated with an eligible hotel, corporate office, contractor arrangement, vendor relationship, or other approved sponsorship.
IHG’s registration instructions say eligible hotel users receive an invite code at the email address supplied during the account process. The recipient can follow the link in that invitation or complete self-registration through the IHG login page.
Corporate employees and employees of IHG-managed hotels in the United States and United Kingdom are told that a Network ID and temporary password will be sent before the start date. Corporate contractors and vendors must contact their IHG corporate sponsor, who arranges Network ID creation through MyID.
No invitation? Return to the workplace contact who requested it.
Password recovery is the wrong first step when registration never finished. The responsible manager, administrator, or sponsor should confirm that the account request uses the correct workplace association and email address.
Procedures can vary by region and hotel management model.
Resetting a Merlin password
IHG directs corporate, managed-hotel, and franchise-hotel colleagues to Password Central. Its instructions require users to select the appropriate domain, enter the User ID, and choose Forgot Password.
The domain selector matters.
A valid User ID entered under the wrong account environment may not produce the expected recovery route. Confirm whether the identity belongs to a corporate, managed-hotel, franchise-hotel, or other supported domain before concluding that the account is missing.
IHG’s hotel reset instructions also distinguish changing a known password from recovering a forgotten one. Use the recovery route when the existing credential cannot be supplied.
Unknown username? Stop guessing.
IHG states that users who have forgotten the username cannot use the applicable self-service reset tool and should contact the IHG Service Desk.
Why a new password may still fail
IHG says a replacement password may take up to one hour to synchronize across devices and platforms.
Wait before resetting it again.
A familiar support pattern starts with one successful password change. The colleague immediately tests a downstream application, gets another rejection, and creates a second password while the first is still moving through connected systems. At that point, different applications may be processing different changes, and the user no longer knows which credential is current.
After the documented synchronization window, test central Merlin access first. If Merlin accepts the new password but one internal tool remains unavailable, stop changing the password.
The problem is now narrower.
IHG’s Network Account Support instructions also place second-factor authentication after the Merlin ID and password stages.
Identify where access stops
Different failure points require different corrections.
| Where the process fails | Check first |
| Account cannot be located | Registration, User ID, domain, or sponsorship |
| Password is rejected | Password state and synchronization |
| Password works but the next step fails | Registered second-factor method |
| Merlin opens but one app is absent | Application role or workplace assignment |
| Maintenance page appears | Platform availability |
Prioritize the failing layer. Skip a password reset when Merlin already opens and only one application is missing.
The separate applications listed by IHG serve different departments and operating functions. Access to Outlook Webmail does not establish access to PeopleSoft, MyHR, Reporting, or SmartPay.
A property administrator, corporate sponsor, manager, or application owner may need to correct the missing role. The appropriate contact varies by region and workplace structure.
Second-factor authentication trouble
The Network Account Support page tells users to enter the Merlin ID, select Password locked or forgotten, and complete a second-factor authentication step.
This creates a useful diagnostic break. When the primary password has already been accepted, focus on the registered authentication method rather than changing the password again.
A replaced phone, unavailable authenticator, or locked second-factor method may need IHG support. Starting a second Network Account request will not repair the registered authentication method attached to the existing identity.
Do the authentication check first. Skip broad account changes.
Maintenance versus an account error
IHG maintains a Maintenance Page listing internal applications such as MyID, MyLearning, MyRecruit, Outlook Webmail, PeopleSoft, Reporting, and SmartPay.
A maintenance notice is not proof that the password is wrong.
When IHG identifies platform maintenance, use any direct application routes supplied on the page when appropriate, or return after the service becomes available. Resetting the account cannot restore a system that is temporarily offline.
Brief cause. Different fix.
Third-party guides often miss this distinction and send every user toward password recovery. Read the IHG page first.
Merlin access and employee room benefits
A Merlin identity and an IHG One Rewards membership may both be involved in the Employee Room Benefit Programme, but they remain separate accounts.
IHG’s employee programme page instructs people who already have a Merlin ID but have not validated their Rewards membership to use the Merlin-related validation route.
A working Merlin login alone does not prove that the loyalty membership has been connected. A working One Rewards account does not establish workplace eligibility for an employee rate.
Check the account link or programme activation first. Skip a Merlin password reset when the problem concerns benefit validation rather than portal access.
Programme availability and procedures can vary by region, employment category, and participating property.
When workplace support should take over
Use the IHG Service Desk, property administrator, manager, or corporate sponsor when:
- The Network ID was never created
- The invitation code did not arrive
- The username is unknown
- Password Central cannot find the account in the expected domain
- The new password fails after the synchronization period
- Second-factor authentication cannot be completed
- Merlin opens but a required application remains missing
IHG’s password-reset guidance routes unresolved problems to the IHG Service Desk.
A useful support report identifies the account category, hotel or corporate relationship, affected application, exact error wording, and whether access stops before or after the second-factor stage.
Keep authentication details inside IHG’s sign-in and recovery systems.
Frequently asked questions
Is IHG Merlin a guest account?
No. It is a workplace gateway.
Can anyone register for IHG Merlin?
No. Registration requires an eligible hotel, corporate, contractor, vendor, or sponsored relationship. Depending on the user category, access may begin through an invitation code, onboarding message, or corporate sponsor.
What should I do with an invitation code?
Use the invitation link or the invite-code registration route on the Merlin sign-on page.
Why does Password Central ask for a domain?
The domain identifies the account environment. Selecting the wrong one may prevent the expected User ID or recovery process from appearing.
What if I forgot my Merlin username?
Contact the IHG Service Desk. IHG’s self-service instructions state that an unknown username cannot be handled through the applicable password-reset tool.
Why is my replacement password still rejected?
IHG says a new password may take up to one hour to synchronize across platforms. Wait through that period, test central Merlin access, and then check the individual application separately.
Why can I enter Merlin but not see MyHR?
The central account may be valid while MyHR lacks the required property, employer, department, region, or role assignment.
Does Merlin access automatically activate employee rates?
No. IHG’s employee programme includes a separate process for validating or connecting the Rewards membership with the Merlin identity.
Begin with the account’s actual state, confirm the User ID and domain, allow a replacement password to synchronize, and send one-application failures to the administrator responsible for that application.
