IHG Merlin is a workplace gateway for authorized hotel colleagues, corporate employees, contractors, vendors, and other sponsored users. The current Merlin page separates regular login, username or password recovery, Network Account requests, and registration for users who already received an invitation code.

This independent guide is not affiliated with IHG Hotels & Resorts. Account registration, recovery, and application-permission changes should be completed through IHG systems or the workplace contact responsible for the account.

What is IHG Merlin?

IHG Merlin provides access to internal applications used across hotel operations, employment administration, learning, recruitment, communications, reporting, and related business functions.

The environment has included links to MyHR, MyID, MyLearning, MyRecruit, Outlook Webmail, PeopleSoft, Performance Tracker for Hotels, Reporting, and SmartPay. These are separate applications reached through the wider workplace environment, not interchangeable sections of one account.

That separation matters.

Merlin may accept a colleague’s central identity while one application remains unavailable. The missing tool may require a particular hotel association, employer type, department, region, or role configured outside the central sign-in process.

Do the narrow check first. Skip another password reset when Merlin opens and only one application is missing.

Merlin or another IHG account?

IHG operates several account environments, and a branded login page is not automatically the employee portal.

Account or portalTypical purpose
IHG MerlinInternal workplace applications
IHG One RewardsGuest bookings, stays, points, and member benefits
MyIDNetwork identity and account administration
IHG ProcurementSupplier and procurement activity
IHG Business EdgeBusiness travel account functions

IHG One Rewards is used to manage guest benefits, bookings, points earning, and reward redemption. It is separate from Merlin workplace access.

IHG also maintains dedicated procurement and business-account portals with their own login and recovery processes.

Check the task before changing anything. A One Rewards password reset will not necessarily repair access to MyHR, PeopleSoft, MyLearning, or another internal system.

This wrong-page problem is common because search results can display several legitimate IHG domains at once. The organization may be correct while the selected account type is wrong.

Choose the right option on the Merlin page

The current Merlin page presents four distinct account situations:

  1. An existing user signing in
  2. An existing user recovering a username or password
  3. A user beginning a Network Account request
  4. A user completing registration with an invitation code

Use the route that matches the account’s real status.

A colleague who already has a Network ID should use login or recovery. Someone who has never received an authorized workplace identity may need the Network Account request process. A user with an invitation code should continue through the invitation route rather than opening a second request.

Do not use registration as password recovery. Do not use password recovery when the invitation process was never completed.

Old bookmarks create another friction point. A saved application address may expect an active Merlin session and return an error once that session expires. Start again from the current Merlin entry route rather than repeatedly refreshing a long redirected URL.

How IHG account registration works

Merlin registration is not open public signup. The identity must be connected to an eligible hotel, corporate organization, contractor relationship, vendor relationship, or authorized sponsor.

IHG’s registration guidance says eligible users who follow the hotel-account process receive an invitation code at the email address provided. The invitation contains a link to complete self-registration, and registration may also be continued from the IHG login page.

Corporate employees and employees at IHG-managed hotels in the United States and United Kingdom are told they will receive a Network ID and temporary password before their start date. Corporate contractors and vendors are directed to an IHG corporate contact, who arranges creation of the Network ID through MyID.

No invitation? Return to the manager, administrator, or sponsor who initiated the request.

Skip repeated signup attempts under different addresses. A new email does not replace the required hotel association or corporate sponsorship, and duplicate requests can make the intended account harder to identify.

The exact process can vary by region, hotel management model, and user category.

Password Central and the domain selector

IHG directs corporate, managed-hotel, and franchise-hotel colleagues to Password Central for network-password assistance. Its published instructions require the user to select a domain, enter the User ID, and choose Forgot Password.

The domain field is a real decision, not decoration.

An otherwise correct User ID may not lead to the expected account when the wrong domain is selected. Before treating the identity as missing, confirm whether it belongs to a corporate, managed-hotel, franchise-hotel, or other supported account environment.

Franchise and hotel reset instructions also distinguish Change Password from Forgot Password. Change Password is used when the current credential is known. The recovery option is used when it is not known and the configured account checks must be completed.

Unknown username? Stop guessing.

IHG states that users who have forgotten the username cannot use the hotel or franchise self-service reset tool and must contact the IHG Service Desk through the support route assigned to them.

Why a replacement password may still fail

IHG says a new password may take up to one hour to synchronize across devices and platforms.

Wait before resetting it again.

A typical failed sequence looks like this: the user changes the password, tests one downstream application immediately, receives another rejection, and changes the password a second time. Different applications may then be receiving different changes while the colleague is unsure which credential is current.

After the documented synchronization period, test the main Merlin identity first. The Network Account Support page tells users to sign in with the Merlin ID and new password, then complete second-factor authentication.

If central Merlin access works but one application does not, stop changing the password. The remaining issue may be an application permission, local device credential, or role assignment.

One test. One result.

Identify where access stops

The same phrase, “Merlin is not working,” can describe several different failures.

Failure pointPriority check
Account cannot be locatedRegistration, User ID, sponsorship, or domain
Password is rejectedPassword state or synchronization
Password is accepted, next step failsSecond-factor authentication
Merlin opens, one tool is absentApplication permission or role
Maintenance page appearsPlatform availability

The Network Account Support page confirms that second-factor authentication is a separate step after the new password is tested.

That detail prevents an unnecessary reset. When the password has already been accepted, focus on the registered authentication method rather than changing the password again.

A missing application follows the same logic. Merlin links to distinct tools serving different functions, so access to Outlook Webmail does not prove access to PeopleSoft, SmartPay, Reporting, or MyHR.

What the maintenance page tells you

IHG maintains a page labeled Maintenance in progress. It states that the platform is unavailable and may provide links to commonly used applications that remain accessible during the interruption.

That is not a credential error.

Do not reset the account because a maintenance notice appears. Use a provided direct application link when appropriate, or return after the platform has been restored.

The page itself is the diagnosis.

This is one area where generic portal guides often cause harm. They treat every unsuccessful visit as a login failure and send the reader into password recovery, even though IHG has already identified a platform outage.

Merlin works, but an application is missing

A colleague’s application list can depend on the hotel or organization attached to the Network ID, employment category, department, region, and permissions assigned through the relevant administrative system.

MyHR, MyLearning, MyRecruit, Outlook Webmail, PeopleSoft, Reporting, and SmartPay appear as separate resources in IHG’s published application list.

When only one tool is missing, ask the authorized property administrator, corporate sponsor, manager, or application owner to check the role connected to that service.

Do this before resetting the central password.

An experienced support desk checks the scope first. If several unrelated systems reject the identity, central account troubleshooting makes sense. If Merlin and other applications work, the failure is narrower and should be routed accordingly.

MyLearning desktop versus mobile

The IHG University mobile app allows users to access a personal learning journey, browse the IHG University catalogue, and update learning progress.

IHG also states that the mobile experience differs from desktop and directs users to desktop myLearning for the complete set of functions.

Check desktop first when a course control, completion action, or administrative option is absent from the app.

Skip repeated mobile reinstalls when the missing feature is available only in the fuller desktop experience. A colleague who can enter Merlin and open other resources probably does not have a central Network ID failure because one mobile learning function is unavailable.

Employee rates and Merlin access

IHG’s Employee Room Benefit Programme is connected with workplace eligibility, but Merlin access and guest loyalty membership remain separate pieces.

The programme page refers to employees who already have a Merlin ID and need to validate or connect their IHG Rewards membership for the employee benefit process.

A working Merlin account alone does not prove that an employee-rate setup is complete. A working One Rewards account also does not prove that workplace eligibility has been connected.

Check the link or programme activation first. Skip guest password troubleshooting when the issue is employee-benefit eligibility.

Availability and programme procedures can vary by region or employment category, so the current IHG employee page and workplace contact should be used for the applicable rules.

Frequently asked questions

Is IHG Merlin for hotel guests?

No. It is a workplace gateway.

Can anyone register for Merlin?

No. Registration requires an eligible hotel, corporate, contractor, vendor, or sponsored relationship. Users may receive an invitation code, a Network ID through onboarding, or access through a corporate sponsor.

What if I already have an invite code?

Use the invitation link or the existing-invite-code option on the Merlin sign-on page.

Why does Password Central ask for a domain?

The domain identifies the account environment. Selecting the wrong one can prevent the system from finding the expected User ID or recovery path.

What if I forgot my Merlin username?

The hotel and franchise reset instructions say the self-service tool cannot be used when the username is forgotten. Use the IHG Service Desk route assigned to the account.

Why does my new password still fail?

IHG says synchronization may take up to one hour. Wait through that period, test the central Merlin login, and then check the individual application separately.

Does the maintenance page mean my account is locked?

No. It means the Merlin platform is undergoing maintenance or an outage, and IHG may provide temporary links to selected applications.

Is every myLearning function available on mobile?

No. IHG says mobile functionality differs from desktop and directs users to desktop myLearning for the complete experience.

Begin with the correct account path, confirm the User ID and domain, allow a new password to synchronize, and route one-application failures to the administrator responsible for that application.
