IHG Merlin is a workplace gateway for authorized IHG hotel colleagues, corporate employees, contractors, vendors, and sponsored users. Its sign-on page provides separate routes for normal login, account recovery, Network Account requests, and registration with an invitation code.

This independent guide is not affiliated with IHG Hotels & Resorts. Account setup, password recovery, and permission changes should be handled through IHG systems or the workplace administrator responsible for the account.

What is IHG Merlin?

Merlin connects eligible users with internal IHG applications used for hotel operations, employment administration, communications, training, reporting, and related business work.

It is not the IHG One Rewards guest account.

IHG One Rewards is used to manage hotel stays, bookings, points, and member benefits. Merlin is tied to an authorized workplace or sponsored business relationship, even when the same email address appears in both environments.

That distinction should be checked before any password is changed. A Rewards password reset will not necessarily repair access to an internal hotel system.

Choose the correct account route

The Merlin sign-on page separates several user situations:

Account situationAppropriate route
Network identity already existsNormal login
Existing user cannot access the accountForgot password or username
No Network Account has been createdNetwork Account request
Invitation code has already arrivedInvitation registration

These paths are not interchangeable.

Do not open a new account request merely because an existing password has stopped working. Likewise, password recovery cannot complete an invitation that was never registered.

Start with the account’s current state. Skip duplicate requests under several email addresses.

An old application bookmark can also cause trouble. A deep link may expect an active Merlin session, so a loop or expired page does not always mean the Network ID is invalid. Return through the current Merlin sign-on route before changing account settings.

How new users receive Merlin access

Merlin registration requires an eligible hotel, corporate, contractor, vendor, or sponsored relationship. It is not open public signup.

IHG’s registration guidance says eligible users may receive an invitation code at the email address supplied during the account-request process. Registration can then be completed through the invitation link or the IHG login page.

Corporate employees and colleagues at IHG-managed hotels in the United States and United Kingdom are told that a Network ID and temporary password will be issued before their start date. Corporate contractors and vendors must ask their IHG corporate contact to arrange Network ID creation through MyID.

No invitation? Contact the manager, property administrator, or sponsor who initiated the request.

Do that first. Skip password recovery when account registration has not been completed, because there may be no active credential to recover yet.

Account procedures can vary by region, property type, and management model.

Resetting an IHG Merlin password

IHG directs corporate, managed-hotel, and franchise-hotel colleagues to Password Central for password assistance. The documented process requires the user to select a domain, enter the User ID, and choose Forgot Password.

The domain selector matters.

A correct User ID entered under the wrong account environment may not reach the expected recovery process. Confirm whether the account belongs to a corporate, managed-hotel, franchise-hotel, or another supported domain before assuming that the identity cannot be found.

IHG’s hotel and franchise instructions also distinguish Change Password from Forgot Password. Change Password is intended for someone who knows the existing credential. Forgot Password is used when it cannot be supplied and the account’s configured recovery checks must be completed.

Unknown username? Stop guessing.

IHG says users who have forgotten their username cannot use the applicable hotel self-service reset tool and must contact the IHG Service Desk.

Why the new password may not work immediately

A completed password reset may not reach every connected system at once.

IHG states that a replacement password can take up to one hour to synchronize across devices and platforms.

Wait before resetting it again.

A common support mistake follows a predictable pattern. The colleague changes the password, immediately tests one downstream application, receives another rejection, and performs a second reset while the first update is still being distributed. Different systems may then be processing different credentials, leaving the user unsure which password is current.

After the documented synchronization period, test central Merlin access first. If Merlin accepts the new password but one application remains unavailable, stop changing the central credential.

The problem is narrower now.

Identify where the sign-in process fails

Different failure points require different responses.

Failure pointCheck first
User ID cannot be foundRegistration, sponsorship, or domain
Password is rejectedPassword status and synchronization
Password works but the next step failsRegistered second-factor method
Merlin opens but an application is missingRole or application permission
Maintenance notice appearsPlatform availability

IHG’s Network Account Support page places second-factor authentication after the Merlin ID and password steps. It also provides a Password locked or forgotten route.

That separation matters. When the password has already been accepted, another password reset may not help. The registered authentication method should be checked instead.

A changed device, unavailable authenticator, or locked second-factor method may require account support. Do not start a second Network Account request to repair authentication attached to an existing identity.

Account locked or disabled

An account-status problem can resemble a bad password.

IHG’s archived and current support material distinguishes password recovery, account unlocking, and second-factor problems. A locked account may require the specific unlock process rather than another password change.

Check the account status first.

Repeated login attempts are unlikely to correct a disabled or locked identity. The authorized property administrator, IHG sponsor, or Service Desk may need to verify whether the account remains active and associated with the correct organization.

This becomes especially relevant after a job change, return to employment, property transfer, or contractor assignment change. Merlin may recognize the identity differently from the individual applications attached to it.

Merlin opens, but one application is missing

A successful Merlin login does not establish permission for every IHG tool.

IHG’s maintenance resources show separate applications serving learning, recruitment, email, hotel operations, reporting, and other business functions. During an outage, IHG may offer direct links to popular applications while Merlin itself is unavailable.

Application access can depend on:

  • Hotel or corporate organization
  • Franchise or managed-hotel status
  • Region
  • Department
  • Job responsibility
  • MyID or application-specific role

When Merlin and several unrelated tools work, prioritize the one missing application. Skip another central password reset.

A property administrator, manager, corporate sponsor, or application owner may need to update the role. The correct contact varies by region and workplace structure.

Maintenance is not a password failure

IHG maintains a page labeled Maintenance in progress. It states that the platform is unavailable and may provide links to commonly used applications that remain accessible during the interruption.

That page is the diagnosis.

Do not reset the password because a maintenance notice appears. Use a supplied direct link when appropriate, or return after the platform has been restored.

Brief cause. Different response.

Generic login guides often miss this distinction and treat every unsuccessful visit as an account problem, even when IHG has identified a platform outage.

IHG Merlin and colleague travel benefits

Merlin access, IHG One Rewards membership, and colleague travel programmes are related but separate.

IHG’s Employee Room Benefit Programme directs enrolled users to book through IHG’s website or mobile app. IHG One Pass is also described as a colleague rewards programme offering travel discounts and perks.

A working Merlin login does not automatically prove that a colleague programme is active. A functioning One Rewards account does not establish workplace eligibility either.

Check programme enrollment or account linking first. Skip Merlin password troubleshooting when the problem concerns a colleague rate or loyalty benefit rather than workplace portal access.

Programme availability and conditions can vary by region, employment category, and participating property.

When IHG support should take over

Use the IHG Service Desk, property administrator, manager, or corporate sponsor when:

  • A Network ID was never issued
  • An invitation code did not arrive
  • The username is unknown
  • Password Central cannot locate the account under the expected domain
  • A new password fails after the synchronization period
  • Second-factor authentication cannot be completed
  • The account appears locked
  • Merlin works but a required application remains missing

IHG’s password instructions route unresolved problems to the IHG Service Desk.

A useful support report identifies the account category, associated hotel or corporate organization, affected application, exact error wording, and whether the process stops before or after second-factor authentication.

Keep account secrets inside IHG’s authentication process.

Frequently asked questions

Is IHG Merlin for hotel guests?

No. It is a workplace gateway.

Can anyone create an IHG Merlin account?

No. Access requires an eligible hotel, corporate, contractor, vendor, or sponsored relationship. Depending on the user category, setup may begin through an invitation, corporate onboarding, or an IHG sponsor.

What should I do with an invitation code?

Use the invitation link or the invitation-registration route on the Merlin sign-on page.

Why does Password Central ask for a domain?

The domain identifies the account environment. Choosing the wrong one may prevent the system from finding the expected User ID or recovery route.

What if I forgot my username?

Contact the IHG Service Desk. IHG’s hotel and franchise reset instructions state that the self-service tool cannot be used when the username is forgotten.

Why is my replacement password still rejected?

IHG says it can take up to one hour for the new password to synchronize across devices and platforms. Wait through that period, test central Merlin access, and then test the individual application.

Does a maintenance page mean my account is locked?

No. It means the Merlin platform is undergoing maintenance or an outage. IHG may provide temporary links to selected applications.

Why can I enter Merlin but not see MyHR or another app?

The central account may be valid while the application lacks the correct property, employer, region, department, or role assignment.

Begin with the account’s actual state, confirm the Network ID and domain, allow a replacement password to synchronize, and route one-application failures to the administrator responsible for that tool.
