IHG Merlin is a workplace portal for authorized IHG corporate, managed-hotel, franchise-hotel, contractor, and vendor users. Its current sign-in page provides an account-login form, a recovery link, a network-account request route, and a separate option for people who already received an invitation code.

This independent guide is not affiliated with IHG Hotels & Resorts. Account creation, recovery, and permission changes must be completed through IHG systems or the support contact assigned to the user’s property or organization.

What is IHG Merlin?

IHG Merlin connects eligible workplace users with internal applications used across hotels and corporate operations. An IHG maintenance page lists services such as MyHR, MyID, MyLearning, MyRecruit, Outlook Webmail, PeopleSoft, Reporting, SmartPay, and hotel performance tools.

It is not the guest loyalty portal.

IHG One Rewards accounts are designed for hotel guests who need to manage bookings, points, and member benefits. A Merlin account is tied to an authorized work or business relationship with IHG.

Do this first: identify which account the task requires. Skip an IHG One Rewards password reset when the actual goal is opening an internal hotel application.

Use the current Merlin sign-in route

The current Merlin page displays Email Address, Password, Forgot password or username?, and Login. It also states that the network-account request process has changed and provides links for beginning that process or continuing with an existing invite code.

Those labels are more useful than instructions copied from an older article. Some third-party pages continue to describe a simple username-and-password form or claim that anyone can create a Merlin profile. The current IHG page instead separates ordinary login, recovery, account requests, and invitation-code registration.

Start from the current IHG-controlled page. Avoid relying on a long application address saved after authentication, because it may represent a temporary session or a destination that assumes the user is already signed in.

A different problem appears in search results: IHG operates multiple portals for guests, suppliers, developers, business accounts, recruitment, and other functions. An IHG-branded page is not automatically Merlin. Check the page purpose before attempting account recovery.

Who can request a Merlin account?

Access is based on the user’s relationship with IHG.

The official registration instructions separate several groups:

  • Eligible hotel users may receive an invitation code at the email address supplied during the request process.
  • Corporate employees and colleagues at IHG-managed hotels in the United States and United Kingdom receive a Network ID and temporary password before their start date.
  • Corporate contractors and vendors must ask their IHG corporate contact to arrange a Network ID through MyID.

This is not public registration.

A valid email address alone does not establish access. The account must be connected with an eligible property, company, role, or sponsor inside IHG’s process.

For a newly hired hotel colleague, the priority is the property’s authorized manager or onboarding contact. For a contractor, the priority is the corporate sponsor. Skip submitting several requests under different addresses because that does not replace the underlying property or sponsor association.

Procedures may vary by region and hotel management model.

How invitation-code registration works

IHG’s registration page says an eligible user receives an invite code at the email address provided. The invitation contains a link for completing self-registration, and the process may also be continued from the IHG login page.

The code is part of an authorized setup path. It is not generated merely because someone visits the portal.

If no invitation arrives, verify the address through the manager or contact who initiated the request. The support path should focus on whether the account request was submitted correctly and associated with the right workplace record.

Do not begin with repeated password recovery attempts. A password cannot be reset for an account that has not completed registration or has not been created under the correct sponsorship.

Password Central and the domain field

IHG directs corporate, managed-hotel, and franchise-hotel colleagues to Password Central for network password resets. The published steps tell users to select their domain, enter the User ID, and choose Forgot Password.

The domain selection is a concrete friction point. A valid User ID entered under the wrong domain may not lead to the expected account process.

Check that field first.

Franchise-hotel instructions also distinguish Change Password from Forgot Password. A colleague who knows the current password can choose the change-password route. Someone who does not remember it can select the recovery option and complete the account checks configured by IHG.

An unknown username requires a different response. IHG states that the franchise self-service tool cannot be used when the username has been forgotten and directs the user to the IHG Service Desk.

Do not guess several possible IDs. Recover the identity through the assigned support route.

Why a reset password may appear to fail

IHG says a newly reset password may take up to one hour to synchronize across devices and platforms. After resetting it, the user is instructed to enter the username and new password in the login box.

That delay creates a predictable mistake. A colleague resets the password, immediately tests several hotel systems, sees one rejection, and performs another reset. The connected applications may then be processing different password changes at different points in time.

Wait through the documented synchronization window before changing it again.

After that period, test the central Merlin account first. If Merlin accepts the new password but one application does not, treat the remaining failure as an application issue rather than automatically repeating the password process.

IHG’s network-account support page also says to test a new password by signing in with the Merlin ID and completing second-factor authentication.

Separate login, second-factor, and app failures

Three different failures can look like one login problem:

Failure pointLikely area to check
Account is rejected before the second stepIdentity, domain selection, password, or synchronization
Password works but the next check failsRegistered second-factor method
Merlin opens but one tool is absentApplication role, property association, or permission

Test the failing layer.

Do not reset a working password merely because MyLearning, MyHR, PeopleSoft, SmartPay, or another linked service is missing. The maintenance-page application list confirms that Merlin connects to tools serving different business functions; it does not indicate that every account receives all of them.

Application access can depend on role, employer, hotel, region, or organizational assignment. A franchise property user may see a different environment from an IHG corporate employee.

One app missing? Check permissions first.

What to do during a Merlin outage

IHG maintains a page that explicitly displays Maintenance in progress when the platform is unavailable. It says the platform will be restored and may provide links to popular applications that remain accessible during the outage.

That screen should not be treated as evidence of a bad password.

Read the page before changing account settings. When IHG identifies an outage, use any application links supplied there or return after service restoration.

Repeated resets during maintenance add account changes without solving the platform problem. The better sequence is to confirm whether the issue affects everyone, whether a direct application remains available, and whether the normal login works after maintenance ends.

Brief interruption. Different cause.

MyLearning desktop and mobile access

The IHG University mobile application provides access to a user’s learning journey and the IHG University catalog, while learning progress is updated through the service.

Mobile access does not necessarily reproduce every desktop function. The official application description indicates that users can reach learning content and track progress, but a missing control on mobile should be compared with the desktop MyLearning experience before the central account is changed.

Use desktop first when a course action or administrative function is absent. Skip reinstalling the app repeatedly unless the problem is clearly limited to the application itself.

A user who can enter Merlin and open other tools probably does not have a general password failure merely because one learning feature behaves differently.

Merlin is not IHG One Rewards

The distinction deserves a second practical test, not a second disclaimer.

The One Rewards sign-in page is for booking and loyalty activity. It asks members to access account benefits, stays, points, and rewards. Merlin handles authorized workplace access.

The two accounts may use the same personal email address in some circumstances, but that does not make them the same identity. Recovering the Rewards password does not necessarily change the Merlin network password.

Look at the requested task:

  • Booking or points issue: use the guest account.
  • Hotel workplace application: use Merlin.
  • Corporate contractor access: contact the IHG sponsor.
  • Unknown Merlin username: use the workplace support route.
  • New hotel colleague without an invitation: return to the authorized property contact.

This account map prevents most wrong-page resets.

When support should take over

Contact the assigned IHG support route when:

  • The username is unknown
  • An expected invitation was not received
  • The account request was not associated with the correct property or sponsor
  • Password Central cannot locate the account under the expected domain
  • The password still fails after the documented synchronization period
  • Second-factor authentication cannot be completed
  • Merlin opens but a required application remains unavailable

IHG’s reset pages consistently direct unresolved password problems to the IHG Service Desk.

A useful report identifies the user category, hotel or corporate relationship, affected application, exact error wording, and the stage at which access stops. Account secrets should remain inside IHG’s approved authentication process.

Frequently asked questions

Is IHG Merlin a guest booking account?

No. It is a workplace portal.

Can any hotel employee register for Merlin?

Registration requires an eligible relationship and the correct IHG request or invitation process. Hotel colleagues may receive an invitation code, while corporate employees, managed-hotel colleagues, contractors, and vendors follow account paths tied to onboarding or sponsorship.

Where do I reset my Merlin password?

IHG directs corporate, managed-hotel, and franchise-hotel colleagues to Password Central, where they select the appropriate domain, enter their User ID, and choose the applicable password option.

What if I forgot my Merlin username?

Contact the IHG Service Desk. The franchise self-service reset instructions state that the tool cannot be used when the username is forgotten.

Why does the new password still fail?

IHG says synchronization across devices and platforms may take up to one hour. Wait through that period before resetting it again, then test Merlin separately from the individual application that was failing.

Is Merlin down when I see the maintenance page?

Yes, the page indicates an IHG platform outage or maintenance period. It may also provide temporary links to selected applications that remain available.

Why can I log in but not see MyHR or PeopleSoft?

Merlin authentication and application permission are separate. The tool may require a role, employer, property, or regional assignment that has not been added to the account.

Is IHG University the same as Merlin?

No. IHG University is a learning service that can be reached within the broader employee environment. Its mobile app supports the learning journey, catalog access, and progress updates.

Begin with the current Merlin sign-in page, identify whether the problem involves registration, domain selection, password synchronization, second-factor authentication, or one application, and route unresolved access through the support contact assigned to the account.
